Lipicard Technologies Survey: US Cardiologists Ready to Prescribe PLATROL®

Leading Cardiologists during a Lipicard survey said that they will prescribe PLATROL® for long-term cardio-protection. Dr. Zacharia P Zacharia, CEO and President of Fort Lauderdale Heart Institute and Director of Cardiology at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale said that a high therapeutic index drug PLATROL® will be prescribed by cardiologists when approved and available. Dr. K. Ram Reddy, Interventional Cardiologist, HCA Bayonet Point Hospital, Florida, a leading Cardiac Surgeon said most of the interventional cardiologists and cardiologists can offer PLATROL® to their patients if the drug is available with less toxicity and higher efficacy. Lipicard survey conducted in Florida also included Dr. Hoshedar P. Tamboli, Cardiologist, University of South Florida among other leading cardiologists.

The Lipicard survey revealed that both Aspirin and Clopidogrel (PLAVIX®) are extensively used for general cardio-protection and after cardiovascular intervention – especially after the angioplasty/insertion of stent. The Cardiologists are aware of non-responders to Aspirin and PLAVIX® and said that the response and effectiveness of Aspirin or PLAVIX® is not checked.

It is well known that all currently available antiplatelet drugs viz- Aspirin, PLAVIX®, Persantine, Aggrastat, and Ticlid are toxic. The CAPRIE (1996) study showed that PLAVIX® (Clopidogrel) and Aspirin are quite toxic with over 50% of those who take either of them suffer from various toxic side effects. However, the cardiologists said that both Aspirin and PLAVIX® are comparatively well tolerated.
