Murugappa Group's Contribution to Tsunami Relief

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Tuesday, January 04, 2005 -- (Business Wire India)

Mr. M A Alagappan, Vice Chairman and Director, Murugappa Group handed over the cheque for Rs. 1.06 crores to the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, towards the Tsunami Relief in the Prime Minister's office today. This fund is a collection of the employee's contribution of a day's salary with a matching contribution by the companies of the Group.

Murugappa Group is making an overall contribution of Rs.2.5 crores for the relief and rehabilitation of the victims of Tsunami. The funds will be made available for the PMs Relief Fund, and specific focused self driven efforts towards the affected communities in and around Ennore, Tiruvottiyur in Chennai, besides Cuddalore and Nagapattinam.

In addition, the various stakeholders of the Group - Customer, Suppliers, Traders and Collaborators - have expressed their willingness to contribute to the relief measures. These funds are being channelised through AMM Foundation, a trust formed by the group to discharge Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) activities of the group, to provide the basic amenities required by the families in distress.

In order to effectively utilize the resources available, the group has also formed an in-house team to address the relief requirements. The team is involved in creating the system and deploying the various relief measures. The salient feature of Murugappa Group's overall response to the Tsunami Relief requirements is that of Total Employee Involvement
