Agnitio Recognized in the Bioinformatics Market with 2005
Technology Innovation Award

Chennai, Tamil Nadu and India, Thursday, July 21, 2005 -- (Business Wire India)

Frost & Sullivan will present Agnitio Science & Technology, Taiwan with the 2005 Technology Innovation Award for its groundbreaking BioIC™, which is based on a revolutionary microfluidic technology, and its LabIT technology suite. The award will be conferred at tonight’s fourth BioBusiness Asia (BBA) conference – one of the largest annual biotech investment events in Asia Pacific –held at Taipei, Taiwan.

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Innovation is given to the company that has demonstrated technological superiority within its industry. This award recognizes the ability of the company to successfully develop and introduce new technology, formulate a well-designed product family, and make significant product performance contributions to the industry.

A leader in the commercialization of bioinformatics and biomicroelectromechanical systems (MEMS), Agnitio integrates information technology and novel precision manufacturing processes to provide automated and compact immunoassay diagnostic testing kits on a chip.

Agnitio's revolutionary BioIC™ is a microfluidic technology based on the principle of micro total analysis system (µ-TAS). This technology platform can automate liquid handling and protein- and DNA-based detection. Relying on its strength in miniaturization, the BioIC™ manipulates micro sample volumes of reagents to conduct traditional laboratory experiments.

It shows good potential in the detection of infectious and gastric diseases and screening for drug abuse, diabetes, allergy, and cancer.

“Agnitio has partnered with Dynamic Biotech, Inc. for developing and manufacturing BioIC™ Drugs of Abuse test system,” says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Derek Leong. “This uses the latest microfluidic technology for quantitative detection of amphetamine, barbiturate, benzodiazepine, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, methamphetamine, morphine, phencyclidine, tricyclic antidepressants, and their metabolites in urine or saliva specimens.”

BioIC™ has cost-effectively introduced automation and parallel processing into the traditional electronic intelligence search and analysis (ELISA) technique. All ELISA techniques – including direct, competitive, and sandwich – are compatible with BioIC™ technology. Its ease of use, automation, easy interpretation, and handling help make it very popular among end users.

Its sliver technology gives Agnitio a competitive edge by offering low-cost, single use comprehensive evaluation (CE) devices using a novel microfabrication process with advanced ‘pick-and-place’ technology. Due to this, long, straight separation channels that are critical for high-performance CE analysis can be realized using minimal chip area.

Agnitio actively collaborates with businesses that can provide complementary technologies for extending product applications.

“Agnitio has positioned itself strongly as a microfluidics technology developer and information infrastructure provider to the global healthcare and life science industry,” notes Leong. “Its latest research is based on the micro TAS technology, which is targeted at the growing and increasingly important class of problems requiring rapid detection and identification of minute quantities of research materials.”

For its continued efforts for finding novel applications in microfluidics, Frost & Sullivan will present Agnitio Science & Technology with the 2004 Technology Innovation Award for Bioinformatics in Taiwan.
