University Of Cambridge International Examinations Appoints William Bickerdike as Regional Manager, South Asia

University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) has announced the appointment of William Bickerdike as regional manager for South Asia. He takes up the assignment with immediate effect and will be based in New Delhi. In his new role, William will work towards ensuring a strong and long-term presence for CIE in India and the region.
William comes to India having worked for CIE in Pakistan, North Africa and Middle East region where he was instrumental in developing new agreements with Government education bodies and supporting the growing number of schools offering Cambridge qualifications.
CIE offers high-quality, international examinations and qualifications to students around the world, including India. To help teachers in their efforts to provide the best education possible and allow schools to develop, Cambridge also provides strong support and training.
William Bickerdike started his overseas educational career as a Teacher of English (as a Foreign Language) at Manarat al Riyadh School in Saudi Arabia, before joining King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals as a Lecturer in English. In 1989 he joined the British Council as a Teacher of English at the British Council in Thailand; this was the start of a 15-year career with the British Council.
William in 1992 gained an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from London University and shortly after joined the British Council in Saudi Arabia as a Senior Teacher. Two years later he was made Assistant Director of Studies at the British Council in Kuwait where he was responsible for all the academic aspects of the Kuwait centre’s English language programmes
In 1996 William became Teaching Centre Manager at the British Council in Morocco. Two years later William became Country Examinations Manager for the British Council in South Asia where he spent the next four years. In 2002, he was further promoted to Assistant Director (Operations) and Country Examinations Manager where he managed a unit that administered 50,000 examinations per year throughout Cyprus on behalf of a large number of UK examining boards.
William’s work and area of operation will also cover Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh. His role here will involve focusing on improving customer service and building relationships with schools, colleges and educational organisations in the region.
Cambridge is at the forefront of India’s growing interest in international education and William’s considerable experience of working with CIE’s educational partners including the British Council and Government bodies will be vital in supporting and growing CIE schools in South Asia.
