Organ Donation in Kerala: HiLITE Shows the Way
Calicut, Kerala, India

Organ transplantation is one of the greatest medical breakthroughs of this century. However, in Kerala, patients in need are yet to benefit from this advancement owing to lack of awareness. There are many who are diagnosed with organ failure and require transplantation to save their lives. An organ donation drive, initiated by HiLITE Staff Club, aims at educating citizens on deceased organ donation and thereby reducing the number of deaths in the region due to shortage of organ donors.

Setting an example in organ donation, more than 1000 staff members of The HiLITE Group and their families have signed consent letters to donate their organs after death. They made the move as a part of an organ donation drive ‘Relive’, organized by HiLITE Staff Club.

HiLITE CMD P. Sulaiman inaugurated the function. Mr. Vinod Paul, HiLITE Staff Club President, handed over the signed consent documents to Dr. Feroz Azees, Convenor of Organ Donation Forum and Mr. M.A.Mehaboob, Director, HiLITE Builders, addressed the gathering.

As part of the initiative, awareness classes were held at HiLITE Business Park in Calicut, Kerala. A Seminar on ‘Organ Donation Awareness’ was given by Dr. Feroz Azees for HiLITE staff members.

The initiative, Relieve, aims to work as a separate forum to promote the idea of organ donation. This would be done by conducting classes and other awareness programmes in Kerala with the help experts in medical field so as to allay several myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation.
