Reelism's Debut Film Hits Cannes Film Festival !
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Missed Call, the debut film of Reelism Films, an independent film production company from Mumbai has made it to the 60th Cannes Film Festival. Missed Call is also the first feature film of the young directors Mridul Toolsidass & Vinay Subramanian. Strikingly original and darkly humorous, MISSED CALL is told in a captivating, verite style that makes this directorial debut a must see for independent film aficionados worldwide. It boasts delightfully realistic performances and witty writing that capture the passion, pain and promise of urban youth navigating the rocky road towards adulthood. The film will be showcased at Cannes along with the biggies like Guru and Munnabhai Lage Raho on 19th May under the section Tous les Cinemas du Monde.

"We are on cloud Cannes! It feels great to be honored at the world's biggest festival for one's first attempt. We could not have asked for more." Says the debutant director Mridul Toolsidass, who left his Chartered Accountancy course unfinished to pursue his ambition of making films. Missed Call was shot in a span of just 15 days with a host of new actors and technicians. "It vindicates our belief that good cinema can be made in an organized and professional manner by using the modern project management techniques. Cannes has reinforced our belief in our capabilities as filmmakers and we intend to carry on undertaking such projects which not only give meaningful cinema to the masses but also give reasonable returns to the investors in this industry" said the beaming producer.

Missed Call is a poignant tribute to the passionate young men and women, who dream of putting their stories on celluloid. Set against an urban backdrop, the film deals with a young man's obsession with his handy cam and his dream of making a film. The film is about a filmmaker, his fight, his defeat, his eccentricities, his creativity and a burning passion for the medium. The cast of the film includes Ankur Vikal, Heeba Shah, Ram Kapoor, Salim Ghouse, Tinu Anand, and Seema Rehmani.

The film had received rave reviews at the 37th International Film Festival held at Goa , where it was screened as the opening film under the Indian Panorama section. It has been much talked about in the international circuit for being one of the most original films coming out of India in the recent past. It was also highly acclaimed in the U.S. where it was screened at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

In the words of Saeed Mirza, Chairman of the Jury (IFFI), ‘Missed Call is a modern film crafted with such élan, flair and style. The team effort of the performers and the technicians shines through the film.

I hail it as the best film in the Indian Panorama this year". The film is scheduled for screening on 19th May at the Cannes Film Festival under the section "Tous Les Cinemas du Monde." at 13.30 hrs in Cinemas Du Monde theatre at Cannes.
